What To Do After a Flood

  • Remove excess water by mopping and blotting
  • Remove and prop up wet upholstery and cushions
  • Place aluminum foil or wood blocks between furniture legs and wet carpeting in order to prevent further water damage
  • Remove art objects and relocate them to a safe, dry place

What NOT To Do After a Flood

  • Don’t leave items on wet surfaces. Instead, move them to dry spaces or hang them outside to dry
  • Don't use your household vacuum to remove water
  • Don't use any items that require electricity, including your television or other household appliances
  • Don't turn on ceiling fixtures if the ceiling is wet and if the ceiling is sagging in any rooms, move to a safer area
