Removal of Water
The main issue with many storms is water damage. Thunderstorms typically lead to heavy rain, which can cause flash flooding. Also, if the roof is damaged by heavy winds, lightning, etc., then even light rain during a storm can cause severe water damage.
One of the first things a restoration company will look to do upon arrival to your home is to remove the standing water quickly. This helps prevent secondary water damage and issues such as mold. It can also make drying occur faster and thus a full restoration can be completed in less time. A professional restoration company will likely use certain equipment, including, but not limited to:
- Moisture detectors
- Infrared cameras
- Dry Vacuum
- Submersible water pumps
- Truck-mounted vacuum units
Professional water removal is important because water can hide in hard-to-notice places, such as under carpet, floorboards, and on the inside of the walls. It is not uncommon for experienced and skilled water extraction professionals to remove hundreds of gallons of water in the initial stages of the restoration process.
